Incubation Conference 2017 to take place next December

The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), represented by the National Business Centre (NBC), will organise the Incubation Conference 2017 during the period from 5-6 December, 2017. This was announced at a press conference held yesterday (Monday) at NBC in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat. The conference, which is the first of its kind in the Sultanate, aims at promoting the culture of entrepreneurship and raising awareness and knowledge on the supporting institutions for the SMEs and their work mechanisms.


Speaking at the press conference, Hilal bin Hamad Al Hasani, Chief Executive Officer of PEIE, stated: “This conference is the first of its kind in Oman which aspires to enhance the culture of entrepreneurship in the country and disseminate awareness on the various institutions that play a vital role in supporting small and medium enterprises as well as institutions concerned with innovation.”


Al Hasani added that the conference will showcase successful Omani models in the entrepreneurship sector in addition to the challenges that are being faced in this sector. “A number of discussion sessions will take place at the conference with the participation of a group of experts specialised in incubators, small businesses, and innovation from different countries worldwide. Besides, the conference will witness an exchange of outlooks between local and regional institutions in relation to SMEs and entrepreneurship,” Al Hasani pointed out.


He emphasised that the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates constantly seeks to enhance entrepreneurial environment and support emerging projects through its adoption of various initiatives. “The Incubation Conference comes at a time when countries worldwide in general and the countries of the region in particular aim at diversifying income sources, relying on human cadres by employing them, and finding alternatives to enhance their economies to ensure comprehensive and sustainable development,” Al Hasani said, adding: “The entrepreneurship sector is among the promising sectors in the social and economic development of the countries, which plays an important role in advancing the national economy and providing job opportunities for the youth. We hope that this conference will conclude with realistic ideas that would contribute to the development of this sector, increase production, activate the diversification of projects, and face the increasing numbers of job seekers.”


Al Hasani then thanked the supporters of the Incubation Conference 2017, which comprise: BP Oman, Occidental Oman, Fund for Development of Youth Projects (Sharakah), Oman Development Bank, Al Raffd Fund, Shumookh Investment and Services, Oman LNG, Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada), Al Wisal Radio, and Oman Establishment for Press, Publication and Advertising.


On her part, Malak Al Shaibani, Director General of NBC, noted that the Incubation Conference 2017, which will take place in December, aims at creating awareness about incubation and acceleration programmes and their important roles in the SME ecosystem; sharing and learn from best practices regionally and internationally with an aim of understanding what works and what does not; getting a better understanding of the role of incubation in a growing ecosystem and the future of the incubation industry; examining best business models for creating and sustaining business incubators and entrepreneurship platforms; exploring the roles of other entities or stakeholders in supporting incubation programmes; looking at types of facilities that can best serve entrepreneurs; examining governance structures and their impact on various programmes; learning more about soft landings programme and the role incubators can play in supporting these programmes; exploring the role of academic institutions (colleges and universities) in supplying and supporting incubators with a steady pipeline of entrepreneurs; and exploring the role of chambers of commerce and other entities in supplying and supporting incubators and the growth of SMEs.


It should be noted that the Incubation Conference 2017 will feature a lineup of speakers and will shed light on several topics including entrepreneurship in the MENA region, education and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship enablers, incubation models, innovation, and new trends in the entrepreneurship sector.

NBC incubates Astronomy Pioneer Projects and Bin Farooq LLC

The National Business Centre (NBC), which pertains to the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), signed recently incubation pacts with two firms. The first pact was signed with Astronomy Pioneer Projects; ‏which is one of the companies seeking to encourage scientific curiosity among the society in astronomy, space and applied sciences by providing educational scientific tools and optical equipment, such as telescopes, microscopes and its technologies. Besides, the company provides consultancy and training for clients to implement astronomical projects such as planetariums and astronomical observatories.

The second pact was signed with Bin Farooq LLC, which is specialised in management consultancy, quality health safety and environment consultancy, project financial consultancy, organisational culture assessment and development, leadership workshops and coaching, and auditor training.

NBC signs incubation deal with kulshai.com

National Business Centre (NBC), which pertains to the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), signed recently an incubation agreement with kulshai.com. The latter will be incubated at Riyada, which is managed by the NBC, and shall benefit from the various offered services and incentives.

Kulshai.com aims at connecting the seller and the buyer through an online platform to proceed with transactions away from the traditional methods. The company aspires to become one of the most reliable stores online by offering a lineup of services to various segments.

The company also aims at supporting small and medium enterprises to qualify them to the level of professional companies through developing marketing strategies that enable them to compete in the market. Kulshai.com shall confirm that all vendors registered with the company have the knowledge of market requirements and work ethics while ensuring quality standards.

NBC signs incubation deal with Achievement for Limited Projects

National Business Centre (NBC), which pertains to the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), signed recently an incubation agreement with Achievement for Limited Projects (Azima Catering). The latter shall benefit from the services and incentives offered by NBC. The agreement was signed between Malak Al Shaibani, director general of NBC, and Salma Noor Al Balushi of Achievement for Limited Projects.

Al Balushi noted that the company, which is specialised in catering services, commenced in May 2011 and is registered at the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Public Authority for Social Insurance, and Tender Board.

The company enjoys a fully established modern kitchen with an experienced international team to gather recipes and ideas from across the world. Al Balushi pointed out that in addition to its main location and kitchen, the company today has six cafes distributed in the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM 4 and Facility Building), headquarters of Omantel (Mawaleh), Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Education.

Through this agreement, the company will enjoy a marketing office at the National Business Centre in KOM, which shall represent the company and enhance its presence on social media channels.

NBC event sheds light on creative industries

The National Business Centre (NBC), which pertains to the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), organised yesterday (Wednesday) Reyooq event, which highlighted topics related to creative industries. These topics included ways, mechanisms and significance of developing creative industries; small enterprises in the field of creative industries; and Omani talents in the creative industries.

Moderated by Hamood Al Hamadan, Director of Sas for Entrepreneurship Centre at Information Technology Authority (ITA), the event hosted speakers comprising Firas Al Musafir of Innovation Factory; Issra Al Lawati of Mint Marketing; and Haitham Al Busafi of Busafi Visuals. The speakers pointed out that ‘creative industries’ have become a major source of realising great financial returns. “The main value of creative industries is not only etched to manufacturing aspects, but also to information expansion and how to exploit such information in production. Creative industries rely primarily on talent and individual work, while diversity is also an important aspect from which creative industries grow and flourish,” the speakers discussed.
